The Ford Edge from the house of Ford is a mid-sized crossover sport utility vehicle, designed and produced based on the CD3 platform. The platform used in the model is also shared by Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan, Mazda CX-9 and Ford Fusion vehicles. It is the second smallest crossover from Ford, next to Escape.

The Ford Edge model fills the gap between truck based SUVs like Explorer and minivans like Freestar.

First Generation (2006-Present)

The Ford Edge was introduced at North American Auto Show in January, 2006 and sale began from 2007. The Ford Edge model implements Ford’s front end design with three bar chrome grille.

The Ford Edge sport package was introduced at Chicago Auto Show in 2008 as 2009 vehicle. The standard engine to the model include 3496 CC Duratec V6 version that delivers 198 hp of power at 6250 rpm and torque of 250 lb ft at 4500 rpm. It is mated to standard 6-speed automatic transmission. With the V6 engine, the SUV model can achieve fuel economy of 16 miles per gallon in the city premises and 22 miles per gallon on the highway roads. It is offered in either all wheel drive or in front wheel drive.

The Ford Edge model is offered in three trim versions, the base model SE, SEL and SEL Plus. Standard features on all the models include P235/65R17 tires on ally wheels, power windows and doors locks, cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power mirrors, air conditioning, driver’s seat lumber and remote keyless entry. Standard safety features include tire pressure monitoring system, front side air bags, dual front air bags, electronic stability program, antilock brakes and traction control.
